Features

My “Blue Chevelle” started life (with me in 1987)
as a ’67 Malibu… (VIN & Body Tag)

It originally had an in-line six.

I used parts (list) from a ’73 Chevelle Estate wagon.

Including a Big Block V-8 and Turbo-400

 I Added SS Stuff

  • A Turbo-Hydromatic-400 Transmission
    • B&M Holeshot Torque Converters 20412
      (Stall Range: 2,300-2,500)
  • 12-bolt (posi) rear;
  • Dual Exhaust (Flowmaster – American Thunder)
    • Switched back to Stock Manifolds (2024)
  • 3/8 (V-8) Fuel Line
  • Rear, “frame-side” linkage reinforcement braces (between upper & lower pivots).
  • Boxed lower rear arms
  • SS Grill (vs. Malibu Grill)
  • Dash trim, Badges, etc.
  • Optional:
    • Front Disc Brakes / Power Brakes
    • Bucket Seats
    • Console
    • Tachometer

To create a “tribute” 1967 SS car with all the “SS” features.

Cam = Hi-Intensity Hydraulic HIT-280-2-NC

Non-Standard…

Upgraded Suspension

(circa 1990)

NOT a “Drag” car; more aimed at “Road Rallying”.

I upgraded the suspension way before coilovers and tubular control arms became fashionable.

Click the link to see the details, but basically,

  • Taller spindles now provide a negative camber curve to raise the roll center from below road level to ≈2″ above ground level.
  • Poly bushings and larger anti-sway bars were added too.

Upgraded Steering (twice).

ConfigurationRatioTravel
Original17.5:187° (±43°30′)
In the early 90’s, I added a
mid-80’s, “fast-ratio”, Trans-Am Steering Box
This required a special “rag joint” and fittings.
12.7:170° (±35°00′)
In late 2020 I added a mid-to-late-90’s Grand Cherokee Steering Box. It has the longer travel.12.7:187.5° (±43°45′)

Wheels / Tires

  • O/E Stock was:
    • Standard = 7.35 x 14 on 14″x5″
      • Hi hp 327 = 7.75 x 14
    • Chevelle “SS” = F70 x 14 on 14″x6″
  • Front
    • Were 235/60R15 on 15″x7″ Rally Wheels
    • Now:
  • Rear
    • Were 245/60R15 on 15″x7″ Rally Wheels
    • Now

Front Disc Brakes (Powered)

By using the spindles from the ’73 during the suspension upgrade, the front disc brakes easily came too.

The power booster is from a ’70(?) Chevelle.

Engine (’73 BBC)
Features & Upgrades

  • Stock Block = small port heads, 2bolt mains, cast crank, etc.
  • Domed Pistons (≈10¼:1) TRW-L2399NF30
  • Added High-lift Cam (0.525/0.550 @ 280/290)
  • Performer 2 Intake Manifold

Upgraded Alternator

Late model (internal regulator, 3-wire) alternator.

Fuel Injection

(March, 2024)

Holley Sniper 2 EFI

Sniper 2 EFI is the second-generation EFI conversion for common 4-barrel (4150 flange) style carburetors. It is self-tuning and easy-to-install.

The main harness includes support for plug-and-play installation of a HyperSpark distributor and ignition module for integrated timing control.

Using the Holley In-Tank Fuel Pump Module

No need for a return line with this in-tank fuel pump / sending unit module made specifically for putting EFI on a 1964-1967 Chevelle. Rated at 255 l/h, it supports up to 550 horsepower.

I was able to install it without dropping the tank.

Upgraded Radiator

Don’t buy a 3 or 4 row aluminum radiator! It doesn’t cool as good as these oversize 2 row models. These radiators are original appearing and have the correct stamping.

  • All Aluminum
  • 100 percent TIG welded
  • Polished OE style tanks
  • (2) 1.25 Inch Tubes
  • 16 fins per inch
  • Corrugated fins that give more surface area and more thermal transfer
  • Pressure tested
  • For Atuomatice trans
  • Direct fitment for 66-67 Chevelle/El Camino
