Miscellaneous Upgrades

Stock Exhaust

Why Stock?

It’s a long story, but the short version is,
To reduce under-hood noise.

(Remember that my RPMs are limited to 5.500.)

Installed by Ron’s Muffler Shop.
They were very professional!

Previously I had Edlebrock headers (1988) and later, Blackjack headers (≈2010?)

My Old (& typical) Headers…

Above are the Blackjack headers (installed ≈2010) I replaced. These had ball/socket connections to the exhaust.

At left are the first set of headers (≈1988) = Edelbrock. Note the flat-flange design.

Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner

From this (Before):

To this (After):

To go along with my efforts to reduce under-hood noise, look somewhat stock, and have something different, I started looking at enclosed air cleaners.

The original 1967 396-325hp ands 396-350hp engines used a single-snorkel air cleaner (shown at right-above). The snorkel, with it’s small opening, looks a bit restrictive.

The 396-375 had the open element. My open element (above-left, “Before”) was a relatively cheap copy and was showing some age.

Dual Snorkel air cleaners (above-right) were used on early ’70s Corvettes and Camaros. They are much less restrictive. The breather also changed from a standalone unit stuck in the valve cover to an elbow and hose connected to filtered air ((right-below).

Garage Floor

I had a new floor put in, and I love it!

Above is the new floor (and lower walls) put in by Fortress Floors. Below is the “Before” shot (during flywheel changeout).

My son helped me change out my flywheel.
